NJR Home Services uses the terms inspection and tuneup to refer to our annual checkups on your heating or cooling system that extends the life of your system and helps minimize breakdowns. During an inspection our service technician checks all the major parts of your system to ensure it is running properly. If needed, the technician will repair or replace parts. An annual inspection on your heating system also includes a filter change.
NJR Home Services uses the term cleaning to specify a different type of service that is more involved than an inspection/tuneup and is performed on a furnace. A cleaning is needed when there is soot in the unit interfering with operations. The procedure involves taking apart the furnace, cleaning the parts and then reassembling the furnace in working order.
-- Check the recommendations of the manufacturer.
-- Monitor the condition of your filter on a monthly basis to determine how often you should replace it.
-- We advise customers who own pets and/or have a household member who smokes or suffers from allergies or breathing difficulties to change the filter often, at least on a monthly basis.
-- Never run your system without a filter.
-- Exit the building immediately.
-- Do not use matches, lighters, electrical switches, appliances, telephones or cell phones.
-- Call New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) from a nearby building by dialing 1-800-GAS-LEAK (1-800-427-5325). If you are not in NJNG’s territory, call your local natural gas utility.
-- Do not re-enter the building, until the utility or qualified emergency personnel has declared it safe to do so.
-- NJNG investigates leaks as a free service, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
The cleaning process involves drilling four to five 1-inch holes to reach the inside of your ductwork.
When the cleaning is complete, the holes are sealed with a sheet metal plate fastened with screws and aluminum tape.
The sanitizer used is a chlorine-based disinfectant that is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency.
The sanitizer has been found to have no residual effects and is safe for children and pets. However, we recommend that children under the age of 1 or household members who are allergic to bleach are not present when the cleaning is performed.
We recommend your ducts be cleaned every five to seven years.
Cleaning your ducts every three to five years is recommended if someone in your home suffers from allergies.
All of our work is guaranteed for 30 days.
If you are not completely satisfied with the work that has been performed, we will send our technicians back to your home to complete the job to your satisfaction or refund your money.
